Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lake Adventure

Imagine standing at Everest Base Camp, flanked by jagged peaks, and gazing upon the mesmerizing emerald green Gokyo Lake (43 meters deep)—a trekker’s dream come true! This 17-day expedition takes you off the beaten path to experience two extraordinary destinations in one journey. You’ll encounter the awe-inspiring high-altitude Gokyo Lake, nestled among towering mountains. The trek is more challenging than the standard Everest Base Camp (EBC) trek, thanks to the higher altitudes, especially when crossing the formidable Cho La Pass (5420 meters) in the Khumbu region. The trail heads west toward the Gokyo Lakes, traversing the Ngozumpa Glacier, the world’s longest at 36 kilometers. To the east, the path merges with the EBC route, winding through the expansive Gokyo and Khumbu valleys, offering breathtaking Himalayan vistas. The Gokyo Lakes and the majestic Mt. Gokyo Ri (5357 meters) will leave you utterly captivated!

As you trek toward Everest Base Camp, you’ll pass through numerous Sherpa villages, immersing yourself in their warm hospitality and rich Buddhist culture. This high-altitude adventure takes you to Gokyo Ri (5357 meters), Cho La Pass (5367 meters), Kala Patthar (5550 meters), and Everest Base Camp (5364 meters). Along the way, you’ll encounter diverse flora and fauna, with the possibility of spotting a snow leopard and yaks grazing in the high-altitude pastures. Reaching Everest Base Camp evokes a sense of nostalgia, as you recall the legendary mountaineer Edmund Hillary and his companion Tenzing Sherpa, who passed through here on their historic ascent of Mt. Everest. The trek’s crowning jewel is the stunningly beautiful Gokyo Lake.

Your journey begins with a short 40-minute flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. From there, you’ll embark on a trek along the banks of the Dudh Koshi River, leading to the culturally rich and historic town of Namche Bazaar. Here, you’ll spend time acclimatizing and enjoying short hikes that offer exquisite panoramic mountain views. The next day, the trail takes you to Dole and Machhermo, nestled in the Dudh Koshi River valley. You’ll then tackle the rugged high-altitude Cho La Pass (5420 meters) before crossing the Khumbu Glacier and reaching Gorak Shep. Finally, you’ll arrive at Everest Base Camp, with a glimpse of the immense Khumbu Glacier, the world’s highest and longest glacier, stretching from 4900 meters to 7600 meters. On the descent, you’ll visit Kala Patthar (5643 meters), renowned for its spectacular views of Mt. Everest and other majestic peaks.
