Overview
This one-day helicopter flight takes you from Kathmandu into the Everest region, with close views of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and the Khumbu Glacier, and a breakfast stop at Hotel Everest View. The price is per person on a shared flight, and private charters are available on request.
The flight follows the Dudh Koshi valley past Lukla into the upper Khumbu, with a short landing stop for photos, weather permitting. The whole trip takes about four to five hours from Kathmandu and back.
Good to know
Best time to go
The flight runs all year but needs clear weather. Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) give the most reliable conditions, and early mornings are usually the clearest.
If the weather is poor, the flight is moved to the next suitable day, so we recommend keeping a spare day in your plans.
Who it suits
No fitness is needed, so the tour suits most ages. Because you reach high altitude very quickly, landings are kept short. The tour is not recommended for people with serious heart or lung conditions.
Practical information
Flights leave early in the morning from Kathmandu. On shared flights seats are allocated by weight, and there are weight limits per helicopter. Bring warm clothing for the landing stop.
See Includes/Excludes for what is covered in the price.
Itinerary
Pick-up from your hotel at about 05:30 for an early flight to Lukla, where the helicopter refuels. The flight continues up the Khumbu valley over Everest Base Camp, with a short landing at Kala Patthar (5,545 m) when permitted by the authorities and the weather. On the way back you stop for breakfast at Hotel Everest View (3,880 m), then return to Kathmandu around midday.
