Overview
The Mohare Danda Trek is a community eco-trek in the hills between Pokhara and the Kali Gandaki valley. From Banskharka the trail passes through the Magar village of Nangi and up to the ridge of Mohare Danda (3,300 m), where a community lodge looks out on Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre.
The route is quiet, the lodges are run by the villages themselves, and you get close views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges without the crowds. It is a good alternative to Poon Hill if you prefer a more local experience.
Know before you go
Best time to go
Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the best seasons, with stable weather and clear mountain views. In spring the rhododendron forests are in bloom.
Because the route stays at a lower altitude, winter (December to February) is also a good option, with clear days and quiet trails, though nights are cold. The monsoon (June to August) brings rain and cloud, and we do not recommend it.
Difficulty and fitness
This is an easy trek with four to seven hours of walking per day on forest trails and stone steps. The high point at Mohare Danda (3,300 m) is low enough that altitude is rarely a problem.
It suits most fitness levels, including first-time trekkers. Some regular walking before the trip will make it more comfortable.
Permits
You need an Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and a TIMS card (Trekkers’ Information Management System).
We arrange all permits for you before the trip. See Includes/Excludes for what is covered in the price.
