This 3-day wildlife trip takes you from Kathmandu to Chitwan National Park, home to the one-horned rhino, the Bengal tiger, crocodiles and more than 500 bird species. The programme includes a canoe ride, a guided jungle walk, a jeep safari and a visit to a Tharu village.
You travel from Kathmandu to Sauraha by tourist bus and stay in a lodge at the edge of the park. All activities are led by experienced nature guides, and the evening often ends with a Tharu cultural dance performance.
Good to know
Best time to go
October to March is the best time, with mild temperatures and good wildlife viewing. From February, when the tall elephant grass is cut, rhinos and deer are easier to spot.
April to June is hot, and during the monsoon (July to September) some activities may be limited by high water.
Who it suits
The safari suits all ages and fitness levels. Jungle walks are on flat ground, and no previous experience is needed.
Practical information
Bring light clothing in neutral colours, insect repellent, sun protection and binoculars if you have them.
